Personal profile

WHY I'M BORROWING
Car has died and shares are low so don't want to sell too many at the moment they are currently worth around £30,000. Also I have SAYE and an endowment due to pay out next year (at least £20,000) so will be able to clear the loan then. We want something comfortable and family friendly (Ford S-Max) as we have three large boys and want fun trips and hols with them before they start moving away. Also our family live all different ends of the country so we have some regular long trips.

ANY EXISTING ZOPA LOANS & PREVIOUS APPLICATIONS

I was accepted for a zopa loan 2 years ago when I needed to change my commuting car. However I didn't take it up as I saved for another 6 months and then paid cash.

I have also applied to Zopa for a loan for this car. I have been accepted as an A* borrower on a 36 month loan for £15K and an A borrower on a 60 month loan at 10% I would like a loan around 8% but would like it to be over 60 months to keep the initial commitment down a bit.

I have rarely taken loans but when I have have always made ful payments on time or paid off early. I plan to do so this time. Making Overpayments when I can and then paying off in full in around 12-18 months time.

THE STATE OF MY FINANCES

My financial situation is now comfortable. Due to always being careful not to overspend or overcommit myself. My mortgage payments are £932 (this is the whole payment my wifes income does not pay towards this) on a fixed rate of 5.14% so will likely reduce in August when the fixed rate comes to an end. I have no other loans and my credit card is paid in full each month.

I am a Software Engineer on a Salary of £46,000. I am promised a bonus this April but I don't know how much this will be.

My wifes income covers a lot of the families expenses and so my contribution may seem minimal below. I started a listing earlier where I listed my wifes parttime income and listed all the families expenses as all our finances are joint however this was cancelled as Zopa do not do joint applications. I hope this is all correct and clear.. Please feel free to ask any questions.

Question asked by:

Question: "while the price is low"? FTSE is up 800points on the this time last year. What have you got - a portfolio of RBS and Lloyds?

Answer: The company is in really good shape and yes up quite substantially from last year but still overall down due too the recession. I am optimistic for the year to come.

Question asked by:

ZopaStaff

Question: This question is posed by Zopa Staff and is being asked so that you can clarify the information provided on your Listing to Zopa lenders who are considering bidding. Failure to respond to this question in a timely manner may result in your Listing being withdrawn.

Hi dizzy11,

Can you confirm the current amount you have outstanding on your credit cards please?

Thanks.

Zopa.

Answer: Hello

I only have one credit card and always pay full balance each month by internet banking. Just checked my balance and to my horror my last payment didn't go through ahhh! Therefore the balance was £2,900. I have just paid last months balance and an extra £150 so the present balance is now under £1,500. I have also set up a DD to clear the full balance each month, should have done this before.

What a pain but was genuine mistake maybe internet crashed before payment or something was totally unaware at least I noticed before the next bill came in.

Question asked on: Tuesday, 9th February 2010

Question asked by:

donallgarvin

Question: Why don't you sell your shares and open a spread betting/CFD account.
You need only put 5-10% of the total value of the transaction (i.e. £1500-£3000) and you pay roughly 2.5%+LIBOR = ~3.5% of the other 90-95%.
This way you cut down on your total interest bill by selling shares for cash and swapping into CFDS. It will be a much more cash efficient way and could save you a lot in interest payments.

Good luck with the listing!

Answer: To be honest I'm not business minded and know nothing about spread betting or any interest in finding out. I have shares in the company I work for and have confidence in them but of course realise the risk. The interest I pay will be minimal as I will pay off early and will not accept anything over 8%. I am selling some shares now but will just sell more of them if I don't get a loan with a lower interst rate. Like you say not worth paying interest when you don't need to. Thanks for the suggestion my wife who is more money savvy may look into that but I like to keep things simple.

Question asked on: Wednesday, 10th February 2010

Question asked by:

TonySoprano

Question: Good luck with your listing. As a Zopa lender, the phrase: "The interest I pay will be minimal" is hardly attractive to a lender, so I'm out. But I'm sure you will get your money, at your rate, since most Zopa lenders don't bother to read listings, or indeed anything relating to lending.

Answer: LOL I did think of that myself but 8% is not a bad return on a safe bet. Minimal to me as I don't intend to borrow for the full for 5 years. Thanks for the best wishes.

Question asked on: Wednesday, 10th February 2010

Question asked by:

Harmonica

Question: As TonySoprano confirms, most statistics are made up on the spot! Not sure how somebody can state that the majority do NOT read Listings once there!

I do not recall anybody getting fourteen stars out of fifteen in Listings before, so I shall be making you an offer.

Good luck!

Harmonica

Answer: Thank you for your support Harmonica.
