Police promotion so looking to buy a more economical car.

Hi there,
I'm a 22 year old female working as a Police Community Support Officer. I have recently been promoted to a School Liaison Officer which involves traveling between 6 schools in the area. I can't use a marked police vehicle as the Neighbourhood Policing Team need them so in order for me to do my job, I need a more economical car to travel in.
I have made a previous Zopa application but it was unsuccessful as I had not been in my current employment for long. This was mid 2009.
I'm a safe pair of hands because I'm a trustworthy and honest individual with good credit history. My partner hates my thoughts on money as I see going out on the weekend as a waste of £40 and would rather put it into my savings! Unfortunately all of my savings went on buying a property in Thailand last year.
I have missed an Orange mobile phone bill for £25 when I was 19 but I was traveling and for some reason didn't set up a direct debit!
I currently live with my partner and best friend so rent and bills are cheap. I have just paid off my existing car loan (Nationwide loan for £5000 in 2005) and only use my credit card for petrol and that gets paid off on the 28th of each month. I have a mobile phone contract with Orange which is currently £35 a month.

Hey,
Thanks very much! This is a 6 month trail at the moment but my career with the Police is long term. The pay is exactly the same in both jobs, its just more responsibility.
I have no financial commitments in Thailand, I bought the house outright and as my family are Thai, my uncle lives in the house and looks after it.

I've been with Avon and Somerset Constabulary since March 2009. There is no sign of redundancy as we are currently recruiting more officers and I have had 3 outstanding contribution awards in my time there so there is no chance of being 'fired'.

I have absolutely no idea. I have no expenses other than £350 rent, £35 mobile phone, £80 for food and usually spend around £50 a month on my credit card for travel cost. Like I said, this gets paid off monthly.
Perhaps its because I have only been in my current role for 10 months and Zopa ask for your previous employers if you have been in your current job for under 2 years.

As I said in my answer to Peribanu, the pay is exactly the same in both jobs. Its a promotion to me because I want to be a School Beat Manager when I join the as a PC so this opportunity is giving me the experience I need.
Some of Avon and Somerset PCSOs are funded by Bristol City Council, me being one of them. We have literally just had a meeting about our funding and it was decided that no PCSOs will be made redundant, but funding will be cut to take on more.The Government has said that Constabularys will need to recruit PCs once a year instead of twice and I hope to progress to a PC by 2012 as I am applying in June.

You say you intend to use your private vehicle to travel between schools on duty. Is this use authorised by the Chief Constable? Will you receiving mileage for this use? Will you declare the business use to your insurer?
Answer:
Hey, business use is already declared to my insurer as I clicked it by mistake when I renewed my policy but yes, it will be declared on the new car. This is authorised by my Sergeant, Inspector and Superintendent as they have the authority to do this.
I will be receiving mileage for this use.

Hi Sunissa! You should have no trouble getting the rate you want but I have a quick question. Your monthly expenses seem rather low compared to your income. Why do you need your loan for as long as 3 years when you should easily be able to pay it off much sooner than this?
