Question:
Good luck with the gamble. And the 5% preferred rate. I'm out!
Answer:
surely too early to call out - markets are volatile if interest rates are reduced to 1% over the next 12 months a loan of 5% could be doing you very nicely - please come back and play badger...

Question:
Yes, OK, I've made an offer. Hopefully it'll help keep the average down. Bearing in mind that we have to allow around 5% for defaults, I think only the insane will bid. I must be mad myself then!
Answer:
thats it badge - keep playing only - 15,000 to go and I promise there will be no defaults - why not bid again - in the bad times in japan when interest rates were negative the bank payed u to withdraw mony - just imagine if that happens here and your sitting on a health 5% return from me - come on badge keep playing u little tinker!

Tonyu
Question:
Hi,
I can see that this is an opportunity but the risk at this moment is enormous, wait perhaps just months and see where the dust settles. You never know HMG might end up nationalizing all UK banks. They may be all bankrupt right now. Doing this you'll only double your money rather than quadruple it. But at least you'll have the money rather than a debt of £15k. I've wondered about this too, but there's too much risk. Well here's a tenner anyway...
All The Best,
T.
Answer:
T you have to take some risks to win - I ahve no fear of losing - come on you can do better than a 10 - pretty please!

Question asked by:
Tamino
Question:
Dear suncoast1,
I think you may be coming to the wrong place here. I can see why you want to invest in bank shares over the long term (because once the dust has settled everyone will realise they are undervalued), but in the meantime we don't know how many more banks are going to get nationalised (B&B, whose shareholders lost everything if I remember rightly) or forced to merge at a lower price than you paid for the shares (HBOS).
Also, if you have "a significant sum in an offset savings account" you will be able to "borrow" money from your mortgage at a much lower rate of interest than you could get from us - and over a longer term - simply by withdrawing some of your savings to invest. (And you also avoid risking the same mistake as Bear Stearns et al. - borrowing money to make investments that then don't work out.) I'm afraid you won't be able to get anything less than 10% for a 60-month loan on Listings.
Yours,
Tamino
Answer:
Tamino - 10% - wont work for me as you say I could use my offset - so please keep the offers coming but it has to avergae 5% or less to work - come in for a penny in for a pound!

Question:
I've put down a tenner at 10% for the comedy in your Q&A. Your enthuasiasm is infectious.....
Someone who has £7k a month spare will be able to pay this back in no time ?!?!?
Answer:
Loan_Shark with your name you must have a few more bob you could throw in at 5% or less and as u recognise - with 7k spare a month payback is no problemo!

Question asked by:
pipoka
Question:
Hi,
Maybe I'm wrong... as it stands at the moment (7/10/08 1:45pm) there is a chance of 7% for stock market give you a 10% net profit. If we consider a long time period of 12 months and been optimistic these values would increase to 13% chance for the same profit. As I see it its a very high risk investment.
Not saying that its not possible but very unlikely.
Any way good luck.
Answer:
Pipoka - I have no idea what your question/statement is but come back and make a bid - lets make this listing happen!

bennybank
Question:
Why don't you trade a few CFD's on bank stocks. You can buy £15k worth of stock with a deposit of £1.5K? Anyway, Here's a tenner from Bennybank for comedy value - I'd love to give you more but as a bank I’m insolvent (ssshhh! Don’t tell anyone).
Answer:
Thanks for supporting me benny - i could be ure answer to insolvency - take a chance on me and get that capital lent out - I am exactly the type or risk u want - couldn't get 100% more secure in terms of repayment - interest rates going down - just think how much margin you will be making when rates are at 0 and I am paying you 5% - surely u could make it up to 20 pounds - I am sure if bennybank commits - other banks will follow!

Question asked by:
fountainhal
Question:
I think you're absolutely bonkers if 1. You think you'll get 15k raised from the listing for this kind of irresponsible investing and 2. You think that you will get a rate of 5% especially when zopa currently pay 4.25% if you're money is just sitting doing nothing.
Answer:
fountainhall - 0.75% margin on 15k isn't a bad return - come on roll up - don't miss this potential opportunity - 100% guaranteed no bad debt!

Tealer
Question:
An application like this doesn't appear every day. Are you sure that there are no further catches? Do you have any icelandic in you?
Answer:
Tealer thanks 4 the contribution - trust me the banks that survive will have a huge monopoly and therfore make loads of spondoolees - u get rich by buying low and selling high.
I also have made some friends in Russia who can help any Icelandic investors
Oz just dropped interest rates by 1% - not unforseeable for the UK to drop rates by say 2% in 12months - then my loan is paying u a massive 2.75% above the zopa holding account.
come on roll up - get on this ticket - wont be available everyday.
Also happy 2 announce it here that my loving wife and myself have 20k lent out to zopa lenders - this money is guaranteed against this loan therfore no risk 2 u lenders - COME ON LETS MAKE IT HAPPEN - guaranteed returns for u and I am confident that my gamble will pay off - this is the only true win win offer around 2day - together we can beet the credit crisis!!!!

Question asked by:
fountainhal
Question:
I'm sorry but I couldn't disagree with you more for starters you never see just one person contributing to a listing so that argument which you put forward just doesn't stand up. There are plenty more worthy and less risky listings to invest in which will give a much greater than 0.75% return. I will say one thing for you though, you've given me a good laugh but your morale boosting isn't worth any money.
Answer:
fountainhal - agreed there are more worthy than me but I wouldn't suggest using zopa for worthiness - plenty of better ways to contribute 2 those in real need.
Risk u have none - i can pay this back from 2 months earnings, offset mortgage, isas, zopa loans - this is a calculated risk 4 me - I am the only one who could loose here - no risk 2 u I assure u - u might not like what I'm going 2 invest in but 100% ure money is SAFE
Come on u have come here twice - offer some of ure spondoolees

Question:
Let's see if I can make my self clear.
Wyh on Earth should I lend on a high risk investment at 5% if I can get a 17% margin on a more safer deal?
Must admint tough, you've convinced 8 lenders so far, well done...
Answer:
Pipoka - how am I high risk - I have 7k disposable a month - repayments are no problem
My investment is risky but this does not impact u?
What deal gives you a 17% margin?

The Hulk
Question:
I'm impressed by the response you've had so far! I am tempted to contribute myself, despite you stating that you're planning on putting such a large amount of money on an enormously risky venture (I reckon if you invest now, you'll probably break even in a year or so!) However, I think before I do I would like to know what job you do that nets you £12,000 per month. You're not a professional gambler, are you?
Answer:
I wish I was a professional gambler.
I run my own management consultancy business - working in Europe and laso the Middle East - have a pipeline of work for the next 24 months so credit crunch - no worries yet
Come on hulk - lets see the colour of ure money - loved watching the hulk when I was a kid!

Question:
With such a good income, why do you have such a low credit score (2 o/o 5 stars)?
TIA
Answer:
No idea - I can only suspect that its because I lived abroad for a number of years - although its never stopped me receiving mortgages or interest free credit cards from hsbc, hbos, rbs, natwest, capital 1 and mbna - all paid back now I might add - so jonbvn will u contribute now - only 2 dyas left!!!!!!!!!!!

Question:
If you want to take a bet on there being a steep rise in bank shares then buying a put option at a deeply out of the money strike would offer a much better return if successful and fixed losses if not.
Answer:
but bmb - u wouldn't have the option 2 get on then - come on interest rates dropped 0.5% yesterday - i'm still offering 5%!

NessBank
Question:
Some of us lenders will offer on a request like this, if only to reward its sheer audacity. However, you will never get £15k. Why not come back with a listing for perhaps £1k or £2k and see how you get on with that?
Answer:
Come on nessbank - u have deep pockets - be brave contribute the full 15k - together we will rule the world!

subjective
Question:
you obviuosly have no clue about finance if you think now is a good time to buy bank shares. to be honest I'd reather lend to some the the listings that cliam the have lots of equity in property that they just can't get at now. and I never lend to those guys....
I mean 5% comeon..... I can put my money in a national saving fixed rate bond and get better than you want.
Answer:
subjective - don't mean 2 be rude but do u think the most succesful investor warren buffet has no clue about finances?
In any case life would be boring - if we all though the same - any money lent 2 me - the return is guaranteed
If my investment makes a good return that is great but if I loose it all - its life - to make money - u cant be scared no big deal to me - of loosing it - come on get on this listing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Question asked by:
novemberkind
Question:
How can you "guarantee" full repayment over a FIVE year term in times where players like AIG go bust? Also, every sane person knows that gambling with borrowed money is a no-go. That's finance 101. I hope you don't advise on financial stuff...
Think interest rates must go up when this is over simply to avoid inflation. I wouldn't even buy government bonds if they paid 5%.
Finally, I agree that buying some bank shares is a good idea, but probably not yet. Never catch a falling knife!
Good luck anyway.
P.s.: Sorry to say this but zopa lenders aren't acting reasonably anyway. The rate you get simply depends on the amount you borrow. Borrow little money, get low rate. Borrow huge amount, pay high interest rate. Credit score has very little impact...
Answer:
Thanks novemberkind - I have guarantedd payment against the 22k me and my wife have loaned to other zopa borrowers.
Zopa if I default on this loan payment - please direct my repayment to those kind enough 2 lend 2 me.
My biz is sold out 4 the next 2 years - therfore i will make a profit of 5k per month minimum for the next 24 months - payments r safe - i CAN ASSURE U.
Come on everyone lets be brave and get on this listing!!!
The funny think is if i had asked for a rate of 20% - I reckon my listing would be 100% complete by now - please debate...

I tried to give you some money, but the system wouldn't let me put in 200%, sorry I'm more greedy than badgerloans with their 1% LOL ...

Question asked by:
novemberkind
Question:
Ah, I see. You guarantee a 5% loan with money lent out to high risk borrowers... But hey, fear not methinks. My money is safely invested in high risk shares from banks who are in the middle of the worst crisis since the 1920s!
Agreed on your 20% point, but you wouldn't accept that loan anyway.
I'll put some money in, just for the fun.
Answer:
Novemberkind - u know as well as i know zopa borrowers r not high risk - hence why they have such a low bad debt ratio (touch wood)
Once again its my money that would be invested in the shares - ure weekly return would be paid from my business profit, offest account, current share dividends, property rental income (that has no mortgage) .....
ps just so u know the plan is to invest in HSBC from next Thursday - plan is to sell 10% after 20% rise - 10% more after 40% rise, 10% more after 80% rise and so on
All shares sold at the end of five years
Stop loss at 50% of each of the above target rates
Why hsbc? Soz u need to do ure own due dilligence there and be comfortable with ure invetment - but one things for sure, this zopa loan is being invested - or alternatively the same amount from my offset is - hold on for the ride - GOOD LUCK ALL!
