Zopa Newsletter, April 2008
This month we've gone awards crazy. We've won one, been nominated for another and we've also been dishing out prizes ourselves. We're going to meet a new starter and take a look at a charity event close to our heart. It's the edition that keeps on giving.
Prize winners
Last month we ran a competition to celebrate our 3rd birthday. 3 lucky winners have now received their organic wine hamper. Yum!

The lucky winners were:
Daniel in Lancashire, William in Cheshire and Mick in Gloucester.

Mick (pictured here) enjoys a bottle of wine with the Sunday roast and is a fan of model railways.

Webby - vote for us
Yippee! We've been nominated for ANOTHER Webby award, this time in the Banking/Bill Paying section (which we won last year) AND in the Financial Services category.

Please help us add another piece of bling to our trophy cabinet by voting for us.

Thanks very much!

Webchat
We love talking to you - it's one of our favourite things. So, we thought it was time for another webchat!

Next month, Doug, Giles and Sarah will be eagerly awaiting your questions. When I hear you cry? - 22nd May (that's a Thursday) from 6-7pm.

If you're a busy bee and can't make it, you can still be involved, just leave us a question here and we'll answer as many as possible.

Look forward to seeing you there!
We won!
Last month we told you about our nomination for 'Most Threatening Non-Bank Competitor' at the Retail Banker International Global Awards. Crack open the bubbly, because we won.

Giles posted on the Zopa blog with the inside scoop.

Here's Giles giving his acceptance speech, and a very happy Dave holding the award.

More good news - we've come third in the 100 Startups list. You can read the full list here.

We are officially hot. Nice.

New starter

It's that time again, we have a new face to share with you, and a lovely one it is too.

So, Christian, what brings you to Zopa?

I'm working in the Operations team - so making sure the day-to-day cogs are turning in the right directions, and looking for ways to make the service better for our users.

Those cogs are vital. Good to have you watching out for them! What name should we look out for on the discussion boards?

tianimo

Do you have an interesting fact about you to share with us?

Unlike certain Scottish pretenders, I have actually walked 500 miles (all the way across Spain). Claims that I did so as a tribute to the Proclaimers are the fanciful fibs of so-called 'friends'.

Anyone else now singing "500 miles"? If you weren't working at Zopa, what would you spend your days doing?

I volunteer for a microfinance charity, so would dedicate more time to them. On a more self-indulgent note, I'd probably take up carpentry or be a luthier. And finally commit my folks' culinary secrets to memory...

I'd like to teach the world to...

Play more instruments! And play them for each other.

What a beautiful idea. I baggsie the kazoo!

Keep on running

There were many jaws dropping when Kelley told us her recent plans for a charity extravaganza. She will be taking part in a number of races which add up to 40 hours of running and cycling. Ouch!

40 hours Kelley, that's impressive. Which charity are you racing for and how can people donate?

The charity I'm supporting is Breast Cancer Care. My Mom is a breast cancer survivor and one of my very best friends is undergoing chemo right now. You can read more about why I am doing this and also donate via my site http://www.justgiving.com/kelleycampbell.

When is your first race?

This Saturday!

Yikes! How's the training going?

The training is going really well. I've been off road in Epping Forest and two weekends ago I spent both days mountain biking at Woburn Sands. I have been running in the mornings – last week I did my longest run (9 miles) and I have been doing some interval work to get my speed up. I also ride my bicycle on the road and commute to work on my bicycle. I did my last run this morning and I am off the bike and onto other forms of transport to give the legs the ultimate in rest before Saturday morning. I have been checking over my mountain bike, adjusting the fork pressure, checking the transmission, adjusting the brakes, etc. and getting it ready for the long ride. I have my list of tools and food...I know what I'm wearing...I’m ready :-)

Transmission - check! Fork pressure adjusted - check! Good. So with all these hours of riding and running ahead of you, do you have a favourite song to listen to when training?

I will be loading my MP3 player today for the weekend. I like to run to Franz Ferdinand and I will have all sorts of music to listen to for the 6 hours of riding – all of it with a nice beat to keep me moving :-)

Well Kelley, we wish you all the luck! Keep on running (perhaps add that to your list of tunes?). And let's get donating to a very worthy cause.
