Zopa Newsletter, May 2008
This month we're winning, chatting and looking at faces - we've got a new one in the office and one of our very own members will have his face on a national campaign...want to know more? Course you do!
We Won a Webby!
Last month we told you about our nomination for the Financial Services webby award. Well, we only went and won it! We'd like to thank all our members who make Zopa what it is.
Doug (our CEO) has kindly offered to go and pick up the award for us in New York next moth. We'll make sure he gets some pictures!

Webchat - read all about it
There was frantic typing from members of the Zopa team suring our latest webchat. We had an hour long session and it was great speaking to members of the Zopa community.
If you weren't able to make it, we've published the transcript here.
We'll let you know when we're having our next one. Happy reading!

New starter

We had a quick chat with our new starter...

Hi Ellis, what have you come to Zopa to do?

I've joined the underwriting team.

Great, and if people have any underwriting questions, who should they call for on the discussion boards?

Ellis, of course!

Short and sweet. Perfect! If you weren't here underwriting loans, what would you spend your day doing?

I'd be shopping and baking cakes. I'm not very good at baking but I love doing it.

I'll resist any offers of cake you bring into the office then... If you has to be stuck in a lift with 3 people, who would they be?

Rob Lowe, preferably placing the part of Sam Seaborn in The West Wing. Peter Kay, becuase he always makes me laugh no matter what. And a slow working lift engineer; well I would want to get out of there eventually!

That's good thinking Ellis, I can see why you got the job!

Lend your face!

Zopa lender Kapil Kapur is involved in a nationwide campaign to achieve "Facial Equality". We caught up with him to learn more.

Hi Kaps, can you tell us a little about the campaign?

Hi! The campaign is aimed at achieveing "Facial Equality" for people with facial disfigurements. These can arise either through birth (cleft palate/hair lip, port wine stains) or through life (accidents such as car crashed or burns).
In the UK, over 500,000 people have a facial disfigurement. Such people find it difficult to get jobs or meaningful relationships. The campaign is being organised by the UK registered charity Changing Faces. The charity exists to provide support for people with facial disfigurement.

And what's your involvement in the campaign?

I've been chosen as one of the 3 people to be the "Face of the Campaign".

How can we get involved?

Anyone can get involved in the campaign uploading their face to the website.
The aim is to get 100,000 faces uploaded so that we can display the collage at a prime location.

I'm uploading as we speak! Thanks Kaps, it's been a pleasure and best of luck with the campaign.
